Writer/director Neil Jordan plays his audience like a fiddle with this old-fashioned, twisty thriller with plenty of jumps, scares, and a supremely satisfying wrap-up. A shy girl, outcasted by her peers and sheltered by her religious mother, unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Hip-shaking guilty pleasure has mature themes, dancing. Very much in the tradition of stalker-thrillers such as Body Double (1984), Fatal Attraction (1987), and Single White Female (1992), although nowhere near as good as any of them, Greta was introduced at the Venice Film Festival as "a twisted little thriller". Sadly, sheâ(TM)s not in a movie which will live in our hearts and minds forever, but perhaps her performance will. A bonkers B movie occasionally elevated by its A-list talent, Greta dives headlong into camp and struggles to stay afloat. Was this review helpful to you?
