The hotel was close to the airport - so the taxi there, which was arranged with the hotel's help - wasn't too pricey. Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis appears when electrically charged particles (electrons and protons) from the sun are carried in the solar wind to the earth’s atmosphere. There are no accurate long-term Aurora forecasts (to our knowledge) and no researches been published that depict how the Aurora behaves or when it is likely to appear. There are plenty of day-time activities on offer too, with cross-country skiing, super-jeep tours and snowmobile racing on the frozen surface of Lake Mývatn to keep you entertained while you wait for the aurora.
